The Sustainable Forestry Initiative
Rosboro is proud to be a voluntary participant of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI), an internationally respected independent third party verification program that monitors harvesting and forestry practices as they relate to the protection of water quality, wildlife, and soil productivity. As an SFI participant, Rosboro follows strict environmental guidelines designed to promote a sustainable forest environment.
These SFI practices include prompt reforestation, prudent chemical use, preservation of special sites, and enhancements to the biodiversity of wildlife habitats. Rosboro also educates the public on sustainable forestry practices, water-quality protection, wood-use improvements, and minimizing the visual impact of tree harvesting.
Forest Stewardship Council
Rosboro's commitment to sustainability is confirmed by our offering of Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain of Custody certification. FSC Certification is available for pure and mixed products as an option with our industry-leading glulam products. With this designation, Rosboro assures customers that, when requested, the wood they purchase is sourced from FSC-certified forests and meets strict tracking requirements. The FSC Chain of Custody procedure tracks material through the production process - from the forest to the consumer - including the stages of processing, manufacturing, and distribution.
Expanded Opportunities for Rosboro Customers
Along with meeting the necessary requirements, FSC certification also provides our clients an expanded selection of product options, all of which signify our long-standing commitment and leadership in responsibly managed lumber-procurement practices.
By building with FSC-certified products, builders may advance their efforts (gaining additional "points") towards earning LEED® certification and many other regional green building certifications that only recognize FSC certification for wood products.
For example, under the LEED rating system, many of the "certified wood credits" require that a minimum of 50 percent of wood-based materials and products be FSC-certified. While all of Rosboro's engineered wood products are already considered to be a "green building product" and earn points under most green building rating systems, an FSC-certified glulam can give our customers more opportunities to gain green-rated points on their projects.
